Course Specifics

To achieve the A-level in Edexcel Physics, students need to complete both the AS and A2 levels. The A2 level consists of three additional examination units:

Unit 4 and Unit 5

Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes each
Marked out of 90 points
May include multiple-choice, short open, open-response,
calculations, and extended-writing questions

Unit 6

Duration: 1 hour 20 minutes
Marked out of 50 points
May include short-open, open-response, calculations, and
extended-writing questions

The weighting of the units is as follows:

  1. Unit 1 (AS level): 20%
  2. Unit 2 (AS level): 20%
  3. Unit 3 (AS level): 10%
  4. Unit 4 (A2 level): 20%
  5. Unit 5 (A2 level): 20%
  6. Unit 6 (A2 level): 10%

The A2 level content is split into eight main teaching topics:

  2. Electric and Magnetic Fields
  3. Nuclear and Particle Physics
  4. Thermodynamics
  5. Nuclear Decay
  6. Oscillations
  7. Astrophysics and Cosmology
  8. Practical skills
