Course Overview

This course is over a period of 30 weeks including revision. There are 2 x 1-hour lessons per week excluding school holidays.

All lessons are presented securely online via Zoom. Students are given unique access links during their designated lessons.

My lessons are fun, interactive and have a clear structure. They start with an introduction to the topic and how it relates specifically to the syllabus. The relevant content is then taught using engaging PowerPoint slides, animations, videos, practical demonstrations and funny and relatable anecdotes. Students have their understanding tested during lessons using topic-specific examination booklets. Lessons are wrapped up by showing students that what they have learnt relates directly to the syllabus and hence examinations.

Students are quizzed regularly and tested after significant syllabus coverage. Tests are either made up of written or multiple-choice questions. Students are welcome to join me online 15 minutes prior to, and after, lessons for some one-to-one support. They are also welcome to email/WhatsApp me out of lessons.

Students get access to a diverse range of top-quality resources without adding any fluff or filler. All resources are examination and syllabus specific.

Course Specifics

OCR GCSE (9–1) in Physics A (Gateway Science) J249

Students are entered for either Foundation Tier (Paper 1 and Paper 2) or Higher Tier (Paper 3 and Paper 4).

Foundation Tier is based on grades 5-1 whilst Higher Tier is based on grades 9-4. Each paper is 1 hour 45 minutes long and is marked out of 90. Each paper is worth 50% of its Tier.

i.e. Paper 1 and Paper 2 are worth 50% each of the Foundation Tier. Paper 3 and Paper 4 are worth 50% each of the Higher Tier.

Papers 1 (J249/01) and 3 (J249/03) assess topics P1-P4 and P9. Paper 2 (J249/02) and 4(J249/04) assess topics P5-P8 with assumed knowledge of topics P1-P4 and P9.

The content is split into eight teaching topics P1-P8 and a practical activity skills topic P9:
